What’s the Origin of Stirling Engine Fan?

In 1816, Reverend Robert Stirling invented the stirling engine to function as a safer source of generating power than the steam engine, which is also called ‘hot air engine fans’. During the 1800s, it was popular and used the world over in areas where there was no electricity. However it began to disappear after 1900’s for the fossil fuel was common used.

Stirlingkit team is inspired by the antique models and designed our stirling engine fans with precision engineering details. It can bring you back to a bygone era and is a perfect collection for those retro home decorators, antique fan collectors, and model engine collectors.

How Does it Work?

The stirling engine obtains its power from rapidly heating and cooling the same volume of air. When the air is heated, it expands, pushing a piston upward; when the same volume of air is rapidly cooled, it contracts, pulling the same piston downward, providing power. The same volume of air is heated and cooled very rapidly converting the heat energy to mechanical energy used to turn the fan blade.

How to Start it?

The stove fan does not require any electricity nor batteries. It’s self powered just from the heat of the alchohol lamp or kerosene. Its working at the temperature of above 110°C, and it can work on any wood burner, alcohol, kerosene and other fuels or coal-burning stoves. It runs quietly and smoothly. The piston reciprocates up and down while the fan rotates. It feels like a mechanical industry.

Ignite the alcohol lamp, put it in the stove, about one to two minutes, and then turn the fan by hand, and then it can be started. The fan runs at about 500-800 RPM and blows a nice breeze considering it’s small size.

Q&A:

Q: Regarding the Stirling engine stove fan: Can I place it on an actual hot stovetop? I want to put it on the wood stove that I run.
A:In theory, it is possible to do it, but pls controll the flame well, and avoid too strong the firepower. The fan will stop running under the extreme high temperature If the flame burns to the power cylinder. What’s worse, If the temperature continues to rise, it will damage the internal sealing parts of the fan.
